Marathon Airport is Closing Their Runway, and Summerland Key Airport is Gearing Up to Help!

Temporary Aircraft Relocation to Summerland Key Airport

From August 18 to October 7, 2025, Marathon Airport will close its runway for reconstruction, halting all fixed-wing operations. As this closure coincides with peak hurricane season, aircraft remaining at Marathon Airport after August 18 cannot be evacuated in the event of a hurricane.

To support affected pilots, Summerland Key Airport is adding 40 new tie-downs to accommodate General Aviation aircraft from Marathon Airport. This ensures pilots can continue operations and evacuate if needed during the closure.

Requirements for Operating at Summerland Key Airport
Pilots must:

  • Complete the application form below.

  • Agree to our Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Provide a Certificate of Insurance naming Summerland Key Cove Airport Company as Additional Insured.

Special Offer for Marathon Pilots
To ease the inconvenience, we’re offering a discounted landing license and tie-down package for one aircraft and one pilot at $750, valid from August 1 to October 31, 2025. This extended period accounts for potential delays in Marathon’s runway reconstruction due to hurricanes or other issues.  If the closure extends beyond October 31, we’ll reassess costs in coordination with Marathon Airport’s management and communicate updates promptly.

Fueling Update
We’re collaborating with MillionAir FBO to provide temporary 100LL fueling at Summerland Key Airport during the closure, though this is not yet confirmed.

Secure Your Spot
Tie-downs are allocated on a first-paid, first-served basis. Complete the application and contact the Summerland Key Airport Manager by phone or email to arrange payment.

Note: Installing additional tie-downs to support our fellow aviators requires significant investment, so prompt payment ensures your reservation.
